Getting Inky

With mixed media all the rage at the moment, today I have been playing with Stampin' Up! products to see what effects I can accomplish.

On Pinterest I discovered a great post by Debbie Henderson of Debbie's Designs,  on her ink spreading technique it had me intrigued and I just had to give it a try.

I have been crafting for a long time and I have to say that messy, inky fingers has never been my favourite part of card making, so I was a little nervous; but I loved the look of this technique so much that I decided I had to have a go.

I began by dripping drops of reinker onto watercolour paper and then immediately spritzing it with some water.

The resulting "mess" made an eye-catching card base and it was so quick and easy. And the best part was it didn't even leave me or my workspace messy.

Once the card stock had completely dried. I added a hand drawn "doodled" border and then stamped on the bird and branch from the Choose Happiness Stamp set.

I stamped the bird again onto a scrap of cardstock and heat embossed it with black embossing powder, I then cut the bird out and mounted it over the one stamped on the card.

I stamped the banner onto Crumb Cake cardstock and cut it and mounted it onto the top left of the card.

To finish I stamped the "choose happiness" sentiment onto Blackberry Bliss card stock with Whisper White ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder. I punched it out using the Artisan Label punch and mounted it to the banner with Dimensionals.

To give the card a little lift I added some black thread and coloured some rhinestones with our new Blendabilities markers. I assembled the stamped card front, onto some Island Indigo card stock and then a folded Blackberry Bliss Card.

I would like to think it's one hot mess that works!

Love is in the air

With Christmas and New Year only just behind us the supermarkets have already started pushing their hot cross buns onto us. I don't know about you, but personally, I am still too full of Christmas cake and turkey to even think about such things and besides if I start planning where to hide the Easter eggs I might totally overlook one of the nicest holidays of the year _ Valentine's Day.
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, Stampin' Up! has done it again with some really cool stamps to help express your love, but they are way too gorgeous to only use once a year. Those little baggies would be gorgeous all year round and that floral heart would be lovely on a love note at any time. And it goes without saying that the Made with love stamp is going to become one of my most used stamps. So be sure to contact me to order these stamps in time to make cards for your loved ones, they are only available for a limited time until 27 January.

But Wait...

At the risk of sounding like Tim Shaw, I will utter those immortal words "But wait there's more". You may not get steak knives with this next offer but you do get free gifts; and I think a free stamp set or punch is better than dumb old steak knives any time.

That's right it is almost  time. That special, once a year time
when Stampin' Up! rewards you with extra presents. In the past for every $100 you spent you received a free gift but this year Stampin' Up! is going one better.
With every $90 order placed you get to choose a free gift from the special Sale-a-bration brochure. That's right you only have to spend $90 to choose a gift.
So get in early and contact me for your free brochure.
Sale-a-bration runs for the entire month of February and March
Call me on 4758 8796 and I can put you on the list to receive a brochure.

I'm off to create a card set for Scrapbook Creations magazine. I feel some pastels and a hint of bling might be in order.
Come back soon to see what I come up with.
